Local Bridges is a grassroots, non-governmental organization dedicated to fostering locally driven, accountable, and transformational partnerships with development partners, implementers, and local governments.
Our organization works to ensure that the development and health challenges of the 21st century utilize cutting-edge and cost-effective methods while never losing sight of the program participant, the community, or the donor.
The past decade has been a tumultuous and transformative time in the development space. Rising donor expectations, increased stakeholder involvement, and a critical reappraisal of traditional development models in the post-colonial era necessitate that organizations be clear in their intentions and adopt a collaborative approach with local governments and partners. Other challenges, such as regional instability and climate change, continue to jeopardize progress toward achieving ambitious objectives, including the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Nevertheless, despite Western governments’ slashing of international donor funding, low- and middle-income countries have made significant gains and worked to insulate their health systems from such cuts by focusing on sustainable development and building the capacity of their local workforce.
Leveraging the vast landscape of governmental, non-profit, and intergovernmental health workers whose livelihoods and professions have been disrupted by recent seismic shifts in the development space, we work to recenter the solutions through expertise and equal partnership.
